About Us
At Hereford the Clinical Trials Team work primarily on cancer trials, both interventional and non-interventional and occasionally pre-cancer trials. The Chemotherapy Research Nurse provides an excellent link not only for established trial patients recieving treatment but in the setting up of new trials.
The team assists consultants in screening for potential patients, recruiting/consenting, and then following the patient through the treatment phase and into follow up. They provide all the data to the Trials Units in order to improve outcomes for future patients.
The trials team work closely with the Charles Renton Unit, where all chemotherapy is administered. Our three Oncology Consultants are based in the Oncology Unit at Cheltenham General Hospital and each visit between one and one and a half days a week. They are all actively involved in research.
The trials portfolio has expanded over the last 12 months and now recruits to 25 open national trials covering the following cancer sites; Breast, Colorectal, Gynaecology, Lung, Upper GI, Urology, Haemtology and Lymphoma. There are new trials in set up all the time which will allow us to work with different health professionals especially Consultant Surgeons. The team also collects data on a large number of patients who are in closed to recruitment trials but remain open to collecting data.
